After last week’s humbling defeat to Chicks With Kicks, all eyes were on Sole Sisters as they looked to return to winning ways. Things could not have started any better, as Sole Sisters fashioned their new, fresh-looking turquoise playing strip. The old adage that clothes maketh the woman, could not have been more true for Sole Sisters as they started the game in dominant fashion.
In addition to their kits, Sole Sisters were also sporting a new style of play – looking to be more compact at the back. Their strategy seemed to work as the dominated the opening stanza, scoring three goals in the first half. Chicks with Kicks could seem to find a way to get a grip of the game, often opting to go long and losing possession of the football as a result.
The second half saw a much improved performance from Chicks With Kicks, with both Lindy and Jess managing to get onto get onto the scoreboard. But, just as the game threatened to become a close encounter, Sole Sisters turned up the heat again scoring two more quick-fire goals. The game ended 5-2 to the Sole Sisters, with Ash, Amy and Karlien all managing to score a goal each. Heather bagged herself a brace and an assist in what is being headlined as her performance of the season. Kim was also being talked about on the Friday morning backpages, unselfishly setting up three of Sole Sister’s five goals.
Lots of positives for Sole Sisters after this game, with plenty of work for Chicks With Kicks if they are to find their winning form again. One thing is certain, this rivalry is only getting started.
