After heartbreak last season, Shin City were keen to silence their doubters with a solid performance against the One10Sport Rebels, last night. City are without key stars Matthew and Cuan Kingwill, as both players departed for the US before the start of the season, and many believe the absence of the Matt’s solidity in goal, in particular, will be the downfall of the team this season.
The doubters were left smiling after the match as Shin City romped to a 7-4 lead, before an unstructured defence let in 4 in quick succession. That chaotic spell meant City were unable to regain control and trailed the Rebels for the remainder of the game before a late goal, with 12 seconds on the clock, meant the match would end 10-10.
All is not lost, however, as the Rebels side is barred from picking up any points this season, which means Shin City were awarded the points. This, paired with rumours linking City and former Mutual, and current IIE Varsity College, number 1, Christian Pietersen, means Shin City may very well still be a force to be reckoned with.
In other news, the match between IIE Varsity College and, defending champions, MyComWinks was postponed and will be honoured at a later date.
